Every Plinko advertisement is a screenshot of the same thing: a ball in the corner of a 16-row high-risk board and a payout with three zeros. Here is what that outcome actually is, how often it happens, what chasing it costs, and why the board it lives on still returns 99%.
The probability
Sixteen rows, sixteen fair coin-flips. A corner needs all sixteen the same way: (1/2)16 = 1 in 65,536 per corner, 1 in 32,768 for either. At 20 drops a minute that is one 1,000ร per 27 hours of play on average; with auto-bet at 60 a minute, one per nine hours. "On average" is doing heavy lifting โ the distribution of waiting times is such that a third of players will go twice that long without one.
The cost of the chase
| Bet per drop | Expected drops to 1,000ร | Turnover | Expected loss along the way | Prize when it lands |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CA$0.10Turnover CA$3,277Expected loss along the way โ CA$33Prize when it lands CA$100 | 32,768 | CA$3,277 | โ CA$33 | CA$100 |
| CA$1Turnover CA$32,768Expected loss along the way โ CA$328Prize when it lands CA$1,000 | 32,768 | CA$32,768 | โ CA$328 | CA$1,000 |
| CA$5Turnover CA$163,840Expected loss along the way โ CA$1,638Prize when it lands CA$5,000 | 32,768 | CA$163,840 | โ CA$1,638 | CA$5,000 |
The expected loss is 1% of turnover on every board, so the chase costs the same 1% as any other Plinko session. The problem is not the average โ it is that a CA$5-a-drop chase needs a bankroll that can absorb CA$1,600 of expected loss plus variance, and the standard deviation over 32,768 drops at CA$5 is about CA$5,900. Most chasers bust long before the corner.
Why the board still returns 99%
Because the 1,000ร is in the paytable. Its contribution to RTP is 1,000 ร (2/65,536) โ 3.05% of the stake per drop โ small, but real. The 130ร buckets (ยฑ7) contribute another 6.3%, the 26ร (ยฑ6) 9.5%, and so on. Add them all up, including the five 0.2ร centre buckets that take 79% of drops and return only 15.8%, and the total is 98.98%. The high-risk board is not a worse deal; it is the same deal paid out in a very lumpy way.

The honest way to chase it
Decide the chase is entertainment, size the bet so the expected loss over 30,000 drops is money you have written off (CA$0.10 a drop is CA$33), set a stop-loss, and play at a site that gives a fifth of the edge back. Try it first on the free high-risk simulator โ it runs the same table and the corner is exactly as rare.
