Why 1%
Plinko originals were designed to compete with slots at 4–6% edge by advertising a tiny one, and the design works: the paytables sum to about 99% at every setting. Our multiplier table computes the exact figure for each: 98.98% on 16 rows low, 98.99% medium, 98.98% high, with the small variation across rows coming from rounding multipliers to one decimal place.
Where the edge hides
It is not in any single bucket. On 16 rows low risk, the centre bucket pays 0.5× to 19.6% of drops — that alone costs 9.8% — and the ±1 buckets pay exactly 1× to a further 35%. The buckets from ±2 outward pay more than 1×, and the total of (probability × multiplier) across all seventeen works out to 0.99. Change the centre from 0.5× to 0.55× and the RTP would be 100%. Operators do occasionally tweak a bucket; the way to catch it is to compare the in-game paytable against ours.

Edge versus variance
